From English news.sky.com and thanks to same 8 June 2022.
This sunken vessel a warship sunk in battle the story making for a worthy blog entry.
"The Royal Navy [British] sank the galleon in 1708 during the War of the Spanish Succession, but its resting place had been a mystery for more than three centuries. Today its contents could be worth billions."
"San José was a 64-gun, three-masted galleon of the Spanish Navy. It was launched in 1698, and sank in battle off the coast of Cartagena, Colombia, in 1708, while laden with gold, silver and emeralds worth about US$17 billion as of 2022."
Ship rests on the bottom [600 meters] at a pretty significant depth! Beyond the reach of divers. Modern ROV technology can bring the treasure to the surface? NOT an easy process but do-able?
"Royal Navy vessels [British] sank the Spanish flagship in 1708 during the War of the Spanish Succession, but its resting place - near the port of Cartagena on Colombia's coast with the Caribbean - had been a mystery for more than three centuries before the Colombian navy formally announced its discovery in 2015."
"Experts speculate that the ship was loaded with at least 200 tons of treasure, including millions of high-purity gold doubloon coins, as well as many silver coins and emeralds that the Spanish empire had plundered from South America, worth up to $17bn [USD] today."
AN EXTRAORDINARY SUM OF TREASURE. THE KINDA STUFF EVERYONE WANTS TO FIND BUT ALMOST NEVER DOES.
