Dunbar.

This is coolbert:

As extracted from a recent isegoria.net blog entry:

"The first time in the world that armored vehicles were used in numbers strategically and as a new weapon of war was in Spain, at the battle of the Ebro, during their Civil War. All the nations should have been watching and maybe were, but only the Germans saw anything. The Spanish Republican chief of armor at that battle, who was the first man to comprehend and use tanks for full effectiveness was a Scottish independent soldier [a communist fighting with the International Brigade] named Malcolm Dunbar. His were the tank tactics which made Guderian and Rommel world famous in later years"

Regarding Dunbar:

"A middle-class, Cambridge-educated, homosexual aesthete, he could hardly have been a less typical volunteer. Yet, like a number of other intellectuals, in Spain he discovered a hitherto undiscovered talent for military life. Ranking only soldado (private) at the Battle of Jarama in February 1937, he rose quickly through the ranks, becoming Chief of Staff of the entire 15th International Brigade at the Battle of the Ebro in July 1938."

Englishman Dunbar as Chief of Staff of the International Brigade in Spain the FIRST to realize the potential of armor warfare and use tank forces in an effective manner?? This I have a problem with.

MORE THAN LIKELY DUNBAR HAVING DECISIONS MADE FOR HIM BY AN EMBEDDED SOVIET RED ARMY SENIOR COMBAT ARMS OFFICER/COMMISSAR.

SENIOR RED ARMY OFFICER TELLING DUNBAR WHAT TO DO AND DUNBAR GIVING THE ORDERS.

Furthermore regarding the use armor during the Spanish Civil War:

"The Spanish Civil War, although the testing grounds for the nations which would ultimately take part in World War II, proved inconclusive with regard to the proof of mechanized warfare. Despite attempts by Soviet, German and Italian advisers and soldiers to use newly devised mechanized theories, the lack of quality crews and the tanks, and the insufficient number of tanks provided bad impressions on the usefulness of tanks on their own."

ARMOR OF ITSELF NOT EFFECTIVE UNLESS PART AND PARCEL OF A COMBINED ARMS FORCE. LESSONS NEEDED TO BE LEARNED.

Crack.

This is coolbert:

"Half of Germany’s potential army recruits unfit, lack motivation or have no citizenship – reports"

From the Russian media outlet Sputnik:

"Hundreds of German soldiers ‘unfit for service’ following missions abroad – report"

"As many as 800 soldiers of the German Armed Forces, or Bundeswehr, have been deemed unfit for further military service after being deployed to Afghanistan, Mali and some other countries, the German daily, Bild [German tabloid newspaper] reports, citing data from the defense ministry. They are currently undergoing a special program, which includes medical treatment and training aimed at helping them reintegrate into civilian life. A further 1,400 servicemen already completed their rehabilitation, according to the ministry."

"However, almost 280 servicemen returned from their missions abroad suffering from various mental disorders last year alone, Bild reports. Since 2015, 28 members of the German military had to be retired early due to mental health problems."

MENTAL ISSUES! AND TO ALL THIS ROMMEL, HALDER, GUDERIAN, VON MANTEUFFEL WOULD SAY WHAT??

Consider also within the context of the proposed Euro Corps or Euro Army: "how to make bricks without straw".

"Deutschland über alles"? Nein!

coolbert.

Disgrace.

This is coolbert:

And to all this Lord Nelson would say?

"Disgraced Big Lizzie captain is flown off flagship aircraft carrier as it sets sail to Portsmouth ahead of him being stripped of command for 'misusing his work car'"

MISUSING HIS WORK CAR!! SURELY REMOVING SUCH A SENIOR RANKING OFFICER FOR SUCH AN INFRACTION IS NOT CALLED FOR. ADMONISHMENT AND CONTINUED MONITORING MORE IN LINE WITH THE OFFENSE.

My intuitive and instantaneous reaction when reading this was THAT JUST HAS TO BE SOMETHING MORE GOING ON!! THERE JUST HAS TO BE!!

This is just not about excessive driving of a government vehicle beyond what is normally proscribed.

A sad way for an outstanding military career to come to an end. Exceedingly so!

Thirty-Six.

This is coolbert:

"Calling these wars of religion is intended to draw our gaze to the wrong culprit.  Religion was a pretext; political power was the objective."

The Thirty Years War I have heard of. The Eighty Years War I have heard of.

The Thirty-Six Year War I had not heard of but only perhaps in the most vague of manner.

"War"

The Lew Rockwell article by Bionic Mosquito, original material courtesy Brad S. Gregory.

"Beginning in 1562, a series of eight civil wars ensue; from start to finish, these last longer than the Thirty Years’ War with perhaps 3 million deaths.  As in Germany, what is described as French Wars of Religion might be better described as wars for political power: a dynastic power struggle between powerful noble families in the line for succession to the French throne – one Catholic and the other Reformed – with the reigning royal family trying to stride the middle in the form of Catholic conciliation."

"Massacres, conversions, refugees, assassinations, acts of revenge.  After thirty-six years, in 1598, King Henry IV signed the Edict of Nantes, granting the Huguenots substantial rights but leaving them with no army.  Fearing an erosion of these rights – as would soon enough prove a rational fear – hundreds of thousands of Huguenots flee France for Calvinist territories in England, the Dutch Republic, the Holy Roman Empire, and the Carolina Coast of the New World."

"By 1650 [the end of the Thirty Years War], it looks as though all the political leaders who were confident God was on their side were wrong.  Perhaps God had never been on anyone’s side."

That number of three million dead from a population of about twenty million French as alive in the year 1600!

Johnny.

This is coolbert:

"According to most mainstream and popular histories, the royal Italian military and the overall part played by the Kingdom of Italy in World War II was totally inconsequential. In a way not seen with any other people, the Italian military is widely dismissed as a comic opera operation with cowardly troops, ignorant commanders and useless weapons"

The Italian military enigma again.

Not all Italian senior commanders during WW2 however so incompetent or ignorant. Here the man rated as BEST Italian general the war. As always, the subjective judgment of BEST during wartime of interest to me.

Giovanni Messe.

"Giovanni Messe . . . was an Italian general, politician, and field marshal (Maresciallo d'Italia). He is considered by many to have been the best Italian general of the Second World War."

Giovanni a professional military man and hardly one shirk his duties during a time of war. Having seen service during conflicts such as:

* Libya.
* World War One.
* Abyssinia.
* World War Two.
   Albania.
   Greece.
   Russia.
   Tunisia.
   Italy [allied side].

Messe thoroughly professional competent and having to make the best of a bad situation in all circumstances, ably commanding his soldiers by all accounts.

Messe too having fought for both the Axis and Allied side during the war. A senior commander of the Italian Co-belligerent Army organized in the aftermath of Italian surrender, troops comporting themselves quite well, aiding and abetting the allied side.

Mystics.

This is coolbert:

IDF = Israel Defense Forces.

"Mystic - n - a person who claims to attain, or believes in the possibility of attaining, insight into mysteries transcending ordinary human knowledge"

Believe me, there hasn't been anything like this since the Vietnam War over fifty years ago now.

Supernatural [?] powers used during a time of war or conflict able to detect tunnels as used by criminals/terrorists/guerrillas/insurgents.

"Report: IDF Officers Convinced Kabbalist Rabbis Located Terror Tunnels"

Thanks to various sources and the article by Adam Eliyahu Berkowitz.

"A recently released media report detailed how two mystic rabbis patrolled Israel’s border and successfully identified the locations of tunnels terrorists had dug into Israel. Several officers were sufficiently impressed to recommend using them in future IDF operations but more senior officers have refused."

Adepts able to locate underground passages/chambers/tunnels using some sort of super-human ability??

Sounds too good to be true. Even the skeptics however seem to be impressed.

Again, last time means and methods of this sort used by American troops during the Second Indo-China War using dowsing sticks as a means [futile] to detect underground complexes of the Viet Cong.

Count me among the hard to convince unless proven otherwise.

Vernacular.

 This is coolbert:

French submarine contract with Australia I had thought was a done deal. But that turned out to be not so.

French Shortfin Barracuda class no, Japanese Soryu class YES! Next generation Australian submarine force a $60 billion dollar contract with the French for the long term now in abeyance. The French having already invested heavily in the project and wanting compensation.

FRENCH NOT HAPPY!

From WIZARD through Sharkhunters:

"Australia will be forced to make multi-million-dollar compensation payments to France if the future submarine program is terminated, a break payment of €250 million euros (about $404 million) would apply if the French delivered a detailed submarine design and Australia then chose to go no further."

"If Australia accepted its first completed submarine but decided to cancel future orders, the Commonwealth would have to pay the French company about $355 million.  The submarine project needed to be organized so that French translations were not just into English, but Australian English, and for employees 'to speak a common language in cultural terms'"

"The French company was accused of giving Taiwan $400,000,000 so they would buy subs from them and gave $100,000,000 to China to keep them happy.  So, one wonders if the Australian Federal Police will show any interest in the deal between France and Australia. The first of the new French-designed submarines are not due to be in service until the mid-2030s."

XII MAS.

This is coolbert:

Italian contribution to the Siege of Leningrad, World War Two.

Consider this to be a new one on me. Devoted readers to the blog also?

Italian naval commando unit, motor-torpedo-boat squadron. Lake Ladoga. Intercept and interdict Soviet shipping. Prevent the besieged city of Leningrad from being re-supplied!

"The XIIª Squadriglia Squadriglia MAS . . . was a formation of the Italian Royal Navy . . . which served on Lake Ladoga as part of the Axis siege of Leningrad during World War II."

Click on image to see an enlarged view. An Italian motor-torpedo-boat [MTB] of the World War Two era. As was active on Lake Ladoga during the Siege of Leningrad.

Actions of the XII MAS on Lake Ladoga inconclusive. From the wiki entry:

"Following its 1000-mile journey [via railroad] to its area of operations, XII MAS served on Lake Ladoga for a 90-day period, making 59 sorties, and engaging in 17 actions, during which they sank a Soviet gunboat (Bira class) and a merchant ship of 1300 tons. Despite the skill and enthusiasm which the MAS brought to this corner of the Eastern Front, they were unable to stop, or even seriously inconvenience, Soviet efforts to maintain supply route to Leningrad"

Soviet military intelligence [GRU] before, during and after the Second World War having a grudging admiration and respect for Italian naval commando units. As described by the Soviet era defector Suvorov:

"before the Second World War Italy's technology was at an incredibly high level . . . achievements, especially in the sphere of aviation, submarines and high-speed launches, were really amazing . . . the Italians were the unrecognized geniuses of military and naval technology." - - Suvorov.

ITALIAN NAVAL COMMANDO UNITS DURING WW2 EVEN TRAINING AND PREPARING FOR A MISSION TO SABOTAGE NAVAL AND MERCHANT SHIPPING VICINITY NEW YORK HARBOR. AN ATTACK WHICH DID NOT COME TO FRUITION BUT ENVISIONED AND IN THE WORKS TO SOME EXTENT.

Florida.

This is coolbert:

For shame!!

Yet one more incident of American military personnel behaving badly. Thanks to the  Russian media outlet Sputnik.

"Sailors Used 'RAPE LIST' to Rank Female Crew members Aboard US Sub - Report"

"Sailors aboard a US guided missile submarine [USS Florida] reportedly created a so-called 'rape list' in 2018 where they ranked female crew members and detailed the sexual acts they wanted to perform with them"

EVIDENTLY THERE HAVE BEEN FOR SOME TIME MIXED-GENDER CREWS ON AMERICAN MISSILE FIRING SUBMARINES. THIS I WAS NOT AWARE OF.

"The incident followed a 2014 scandal surrounding a video recording of female officers and midshipmen undressing in a shower aboard another American submarine, the USS Wyoming. It was revealed that for a year, a sailor had been filming his crew mates [female?] showering without their knowledge."

The intention of the U.S. Navy according to what I knew was that two Virginia class submarines were to have an all-female "manning" table but that was in the future at least as of 2011. The future in reality at least to an extent is already so?

See other instances of American military personnel behaving badly:

Jawan.

This is coolbert:

Smart phones. Applications. Social media. Malware. Military intelligence.

How many times now have I had blog entries concerning this topic? Social media as it is referred to in this instance as the "honey pot". Entice and trap the unwary soldier via a Smart Phone.

Even in India this occurs!!

"Indian soldier [jawan]  leaked sensitive info to Pakistani ‘honey pot’ on Facebook"

"honey pot - - something or some location that is attractive or rewarding and that entices a specific group of people"

Thanks to the Russian Internet web site Russian Times [RT].

"An Indian Army clerk [jawan] has been arrested for passing information on troop movements and military exercises to a Pakistani spy on Facebook and WhatsApp and may have been paid for his betrayal"

"The Indian Army announced a nationwide crackdown on social media “honey-traps” in January, and military intelligence has been conducting spot-checks of soldiers’ phones and laptops ever since, warning them not to post any photos or share any material containing sensitive military information . . . In this particular model of honey-trap, attractive young women 'like' and comment on soldiers’ social media photos and gradually ply them for more information under the guise of flirtation and developing a 'relationship.' As the dialogue moves into private messages, 'intimate' videos and photos are exchanged, and the women – who invariably turn out to be ISI operatives – can then blackmail soldiers into telling everything they know."

Boys, be aware and beware!! Heather, Holly, Amber, Mallory probably really isn't Heather, Holly, Amber, Mallory! Expect fully well Heather, Holly, Amber, Mallory not even to be a she!

Bottom.

This is coolbert:

Submarine back in service. Submarine back out of service.

From a variety of sources through Sharkhunters. Thanks to STEINER LIED, Matthias Gebauer and "Der Spiegel".

"LOVE THAT SEA BOTTOM"

German submarine U-36 first patrol after spending a considerable time in shipyard for repair now damaged again and out of commission? So it seems

"It seems that U-36 was at sea her first deployment since spending almost a year in the shipyards for major repairs.  She didn’t get far and as she was departing the Norwegian port of Haakonsvern this past Tuesday, she ran aground, causing serious damage to the boat . . . This set-back with U-36 will most likely put her back in the yards again, reducing their [German navy] number of operational boats to two."

Normally a submarine captain for such an action losing his command and permanently placed on desk duty for the remainder of his career

Admiral Doenitz would hardly be pleased.

Asphyxiation.

This is coolbert:

From the Internet web site English/Russian the World War Two [WW] story of the Ajimshkai quarries. Various spellings of Ajimushkai existing.

"HEROES OF AJIMUSHKAI STONE QUARRIES"

Underground warfare WW2 style. Soviets versus Germans. Soviets besieged for a period of almost six months. Incredible deprivation and sacrifice, almost complete in totality of casualties.

"May, 1942. During fierce fighting the German army conquers the Kerch peninsula. Troops of the Crimean front have to evacuate to the Taman, but a part of the troops defeating a setback and crossing of the major forces find themselves cut-off and have to come down under the ground. That is a beginning of 170-days’ defence of Ajimushkai Stone Quarries."

"That defense, lasting almost six full months, the underground quarry occupied by tens of thousands of soldiers and civilians [figure varies depending on who is doing the counting], only several dozen survivors emerging and taken alive by the German forces."

THAT CONTROVERSIAL ASPECT OF THE SIEGE - - DID OR DID NOT THE GERMAN USE POISON GAS TO SUBDUE THE OCCUPANTS OF THE QUARRY??

GAS OR CHEMICAL WEAPONS OF SOME SORT UNDENIABLY [?] USED BUT GAS AS AN ASPHYXIATION AGENT IS THE QUESTION?

Quarry no longer mined and now and has been for some time a war museum and monument. Entrance to the museum/monument done in the grand Soviet style. Persons as can be seen at the entrance for scale! Click on image to see an larger view.

Cash.

This is coolbert:

"In time of peace prepare for war" - - Cicero.

Here with an aspect of cyber-warfare I had not thought of.

ECONOMIC ACTIVITY AS UNDERSTOOD DURING A TIME OF PEACE BECOMING IMPOSSIBLE IN THE "CASHLESS" SOCIETY UNDERGOING CYBER-ATTACK BY A HOSTILE ENTITY OR FOREIGN POWER!

From Zero Hedge and the article by Tyler Durden

"'Cashless' Sweden Suddenly Warns Citizens: Hoard Banknotes and Coins In Case Of Cyber-Attack Or War"

"Figures from the Royal Institute of Technology in Stockholm show that only 18% of all payments made today in Sweden are in cash . . . Such is the appetite for digital commerce in Sweden that many predicted it could become the world’s first cashless society."

"The Swedish Civil Contingencies Agency, an arm of the government, has sent guidance to every home telling residents to squirrel away 'cash in small denominations' in case of emergencies ranging from power cuts or technology glitches to terrorism, cyber-attacks by a rogue government or war."

Societies so totally on computerized transactions of whatever sort so very susceptible to cyber-attack. Cyber-attack on critical infrastructure [such as a power production plant] and incapacitation of same no different than a direct hit from a conventional munition.

In the USA measures as suggested by the Civil Contingencies Agency preparing for disaster called "prepping". Keep a minimum of six months food supply on hand [green beans, sardines, oatmeal], three months of water [one gallon per person per household per day], a source of lighting [oil lamp], a first aid kit [and a knowledge on how to use same], medications, a radio that can tune to emergency frequencies [a radio powered by a hand-cranked internal dynamo] AND currency of some sort [perhaps even in precious metals such as gold and silver].

Scripture.

This is coolbert:

Separation of church and state? Controversial?

You the devoted reader to the blog decide this for yourself.

"Lawsuit calls for POW Bible to be removed from VA hospital display"

"Manchester, N.H., May 8, 2019 / 08:00 pm (CNA).- A Bible once carried by a World War II prisoner of war is the center of a legal fight at a veterans’ medical center in New Hampshire."

Display in question at seen at the Manchester Veterans’ Administration Medical Center. Bible under glass at the center of the controversy. Demonstrates a favoritism of one religion over another?

"The Bible was part of a 'Missing Man' table display, honoring prisoners of war and missing soldiers, placed at the entrance of the Manchester Veterans’ Administration Medical Center. The bible was donated to the medical center by a 95 year old veteran and former POW to whom it belonged. The veteran had the Bible while he was a prisoner of war."

Yet one more "missing man" display to include a Holy Bible. As seen in the galley of the retired aircraft carrier USS Lexington moored as a museum, Corpus Christi, Texas, USA. A dinner table setting for Thanksgiving traditional and customary. In memory of those military men who did not "make it".

No disrespect or favoritism was meant and none should be taken. And shame on those that take offense foolishly so.

Designed to limit collateral damage? Similar to DIME type weaponry?

"The flying Ginsu doesn’t explode"

"Both the Central Intelligence Agency and the Pentagon have used a modified version of the well-known Hellfire missile with an inert warhead"

"Instead of exploding, it is designed to plunge more than 100 pounds of metal through the tops of cars and buildings to kill its target without harming individuals and property close by."

"a halo of six long blades that are stowed inside and then deploy through the skin of the missile seconds before impact, shredding anything in its tracks."

Rockets.

This is coolbert:

More from the latest edition of the DEBKAfile, the Palestinian rocket artillery offensive from the Israeli perspective. Within context of the Israeli Iron Dome air defenses system see most blog entries here and here.

1. "Palestinians believe they can beat Iron Dome. Israel refutes this dangerous illusion"

"Palestinian media have been crowing over their “success” in overcoming Israel’s famed anti-rocket Iron Dome system, ever since the Gaza ceasefire early Monday May 6 cut short their 8th rocket onslaught on southern Israel. The Hamas and Islamic Jihad terrorist groups boast that their tactic of concentrated rocket volleys achieved this feat."

2. "Iran’s Badr 3 missile debuts against Israel in Palestinian rocket offensive"

"The Iranian Badr 3 missile explodes within 20m of target and releases a 1,400-piece shower of shrapnel fragments. On Monday, April 6, hours into the Gaza ceasefire, Palestinian and Iranian sources released a video showcasing the new Iranian weapon targeting Ashkelon, 13 km north of Gaza."

SO? DOES IRON DOME WORK OR DOES NOT WORK. WORKS OBVIOUSLY BUT NOT SO TOTALLY 100 % EFFECTIVE BUT SHOULD NEVER BE EXPECTED TO BE OTHER THAN THAT!

IRANIAN BADR-3 IF INDEED FIRED ON ISRAELI TARGETS THIS REPRESENTING AN ESCALATION OF HOSTILITIES MOST PROFOUND? ROCKETS NO LONGER FIRED FROM GAZA CONFINED TO CRUDE HOME-MADE ROCKET ARTILLERY VARIETIES? LETHALITY AND ACCURACY OF THE BADR-3 A DANGEROUS COMBINATION.

Iron II.

This is coolbert:

Conclusion!

More Israeli Iron Dome stuff. Iron Dome Israeli air defense against rocket artillery rounds.

Iron Dome in response to massive bombardment of rocket artillery not as effective as desired. Many rocket artillery rounds intercepted but not ALL! See previous blog entry also the topic Iron Dome.

From Sputnik an article the effectiveness of Iron Dome questioned.

"Former Military Explains Why Iron Dome Failed to Intercept All Rockets From Gaza"

"A massive missile attack coming from Gaza struck Israel early on 4 May with 690 rockets launched over the course of the next 48 hours, the IDF [Israeli Defense Forces] reported. Although many missiles were intercepted by the Iron Dome system, some made it through leading to casualties."

"In an interview with The Jerusalem Post former head of Military Intelligence's Research Department, Yaakov Amidror revealed that the Iron Dome defence system wasn't able to intercept all the missiles launched from Gaza due to a number of reasons."

As to that "number of reasons" the devoted followers to the blog and those perusing merely incidentally must read it all for themselves.

NEVER EXPECT A DEFENSIVE SYSTEM TO BE 100 % EFFECTIVE 100 % OF THE TIME!

"The cost problem of Iron Dome, and the solution"

IRON DOME AN ISRAELI AIR DEFENSE MISSILE SYSTEM THE MISSION OF WHICH IS TO INTERCEPT AND DESTROY ROCKET ARTILLERY ROUNDS. ALSO EFFECTIVE AGAINST ARTILLERY AND MORTAR ROUNDS?

"Iron Dome saves lives, but every interceptor fired costs some $80,000. Cheaper laser-based alternatives exist that can eradicate threats from multiple rocket barrages."

There IS a CHEAPER way of accomplishing the same mission! But is it ready to go NOW?

Cruel!

This is coolbert:

MoD = British Ministry of Defense.

Animal stories! Cruel and unusual?

From the British tabloid The Sun and the article by David Wooding headlines that SCREAM at you!!

"'EXTREME SUFFERING' Almost 50,000 animals have been killed in seven years at a secret MoD research base"

Animals at the Defence Science and Technology Laboratory were shot, blown up, gassed and poisoned

"ALMOST 50,000 animals have been killed in experiments by military scientists at a top secret government research base, it can be revealed."

A modern medical facility at Porton Down? Pigs being prepared for some sort of unnatural and sinister experiment I suppose. Size of the pigs please note quite similar to that of an adult human being. Inside anatomy of a pig, size and positioning of organs also quite comparable to that of a human. Weapon injury on a human can be expected to be about the same as the injury from the same weapon you will see on a fully grown pig!!

"Scientists blasted pigs with explosives, infected monkeys with biological weapons and poisoned guinea pigs with nerve gas at the government’s top secret Defence Science and Technology Laboratory at Porton Down in Wiltshire."

Sheep too the size of the body, the internal placement of the organs too quite similar to that of a human. Sheep also used for weapons testing.

SIGAR.

This is coolbert:

Without any ado or any commentary on my part here with items of interest as copied in entirety from the isegoria.net and Free Republic Internet web sites:

1. "Afghan pilots will no longer be trained in the United States"

"Afghan AC-208 pilots will no longer be trained in the United States, because more than 40 percent of the students training here ended up deserting within U.S. borders."

2. "Afghan Air Force pilot training program in US ends after nearly half go AWOL"

"WASHINGTON – The Pentagon quietly ended a program to train Afghan Air Force pilots in the United States after nearly half of the course attendees disappeared, according to a Defense Department watchdog report released this week. More than 40 percent of the Afghan pilots sent to train on the AC-208 Combat Caravan lightweight reconnaissance aircraft went absent without leave while in the United States, according to a quarterly report of the Special Inspector General for Afghanistan Reconstruction, or SIGAR."

Desertion by American military standards defined as being gone for more than thirty days without the intention of returning. AWOL [absent without leave] gone from your duty position for more than twenty-four hours straight.

Devoted readers to the blog draw your own conclusions.

SHiELD.

This is coolbert:

SHiELD with a lower-case I.

6th generation fighter plane closer than we thought?

6TH GENERATION COMBINING STEALTH WITH ON-BOARD PARTICLE BEAM WEAPON OF SOME SORT.

The article BY PATRICK TUCKER thanks to the tip from Matt:

"U.S. Air Force says a ground-based laser downed multiple test missiles over New Mexico."

"A successful ground test has moved the U.S. military one big step closer to putting anti-missile lasers on its aircraft."

"A ground-based laser shot down 'several' missiles in flight during an April 23 test at the White Sands Missile Range in New Mexico, Air Force officials said. Run by the Air Force Research Laboratory, or AFRL, the test was part of the Self-Protect High Energy Laser Demonstrator, or SHiELD, a program intended to protect aircraft from incoming missiles."

Boat.

This is coolbert:

Crazy indeed!

Herewith some additional information, the Soviet era nuclear-powered military underground borer. Thanks to the Internet web site English/Russian.

"THE CRAZIEST SECRET MILITARY PROJECT OF THE USSR"

"The subterranean nuclear combat boat was probably the most fabulous secret military project of the USSR."

AND was the topic of a previous blog entry.

I doubt very much that the crew of the nuclear-powered borer would be able to exit the vehicle into a well lit subterranean cavity.

"When [the] Wehrmacht [German army] was defeated the documents came to the USSR. On their basis in the time of N. Khruschev Soviets finally created an acting model of a subterranean boat. During its first test in the Urals the boat sailed along the mountain with a speed of a pedestrian. During the second test the boat exploded and turned to be immured together with the crew in the mountains. In the time of Brezhnev [he] having understood all foolishness and mercilessness of the project it was eventually canceled."

"immure - - verb 1.to enclose within walls. 2. to shut in; seclude or confine. 3. to imprison. 4. to build into or entomb in a wall."

There you have it. Project canceled. Borer and crew gone. Borer vehicle exploded. Crew and border trapped without any chance of rescue way underground.

And as to the amount of nuclear spew as emitted by the borer while operational? Contamination potentially immense. This explosion was not necessarily an atomic detonation but a melt-down as that term understood?

Even the entire concept of subterraneans on paper suspect? Easier, cheaper, and quicker way to do the same damage as a bomb-laden subterranean boring through the earth?

# 1262.

This is coolbert:

Unique indeed!!

From the excellent Internet web site English/Russian we have a photo-essay, a Russian private museum devoted to American Lend Lease as delivered to the Soviet Union during World War Two

"UNIQUE LEND LEASE MUSEUM IN MOSCOW"

"Lend-Lease was the program under which the United States of America supplied the United Kingdom, the Soviet Union, China, Free France, and other Allied nations with material between 1941 and 1945."

"Moscow has an interesting and not much known museum in school №1262 devoted to lend-lease military stuff. It was created by enthusiasts. Let’s see what exhibits the museum can show."

Click on image to see an enlarged view. Good job Russians!

This is coolbert:

See! It can't be all that bad. Nothing to worry about.

If it was that bad, tensions between Russia and the USA so pronounced, such flights would not be occurring?

"Russian Spy Plane Flies Over Washington, US Military and Nuclear Bases"

Thanks to the Internet web site Zero Hedge and the article by Tyler Durden

"In accordance with the 'Open Skies' treaty, which allows the US, Russia and 32 other countries to carry out inspections of others' military infrastructure on their domestic territory, typically via spy plane, Russia carried out its latest reconnaissance flight over American territory this week."

This video from You Tube even shows one operator at his station operating the on board equipment. That airman speaking apparently is a Dane. Certification from USA lacking in 2014 but now has been granted?

"A Russian Tu-214ON spy plane made a reconnaissance tour over the southwestern US, capturing images of military bases and nuclear and chemical weapons caches. On Wednesday, the Russian plane was spotted over Washington, DC conducting low-altitude surveillance (and probably scaring a few unsuspecting locals)."

OPEN SKIES the concept for aerial surveillance of this sort first proposed by President Eisenhower in 1955.

OPEN SKIES now a reality many decades later.

Yeti.

This is coolbert:

The yeti again spotted [traces or footprints as purported]. The ABOMINABLE SNOWMAN!

High in the Himalaya mountains so it is suspected by some dwells a humanoid like creature. MYTHICAL!

Thanks to the Russian controlled [?] media outlet Sputnik.

"Indian Army Says Found Suspected Footprints of 'Yeti' in Himalayas"

"NEW DELHI (Sputnik) – The Indian army has said it has spotted giant footprints that supposedly belong to the mythical creature 'yeti' in the Himalayas."

"For the first time, an #IndianArmy Moutaineering Expedition Team has sited [sic] Mysterious Footprints of mythical beast 'Yeti' measuring 32x15 inches [81 X 38 centimeters] close to Makalu Base Camp on 09 April 2019. This elusive snowman has only been sighted at Makalu-Barun National Park in the past,"

"The yeti, also called the Abominable Snowman, is an ape-like animal that is said to inhabit remote mountainous territories in various parts of the world. While most scientists believe that the yeti is no more than a myth and part of popular culture, others say that it could be a relic hominid that has not yet been discovered."

Indian Army mountaineering party in the Himalaya coming across "tracks" of the yeti? As is reported?

INDIA AND PAKISTAN THEIR GROUND FORCES HAVING THE MOST EXPERIENCE AND EXPERTISE IN HIGH-ALTITUDE MILITARY WARFARE!

Polish POW's during WW2 having escaped the Soviet Gulag also reporting having an encounter with the yeti, traversing the Himalaya en route to British India.

Moscow.

This coolbert:

Most interesting! World War Two deja vu all over again but strictly with images!

"DEFENCE OF MOSCOW: TIMES PAST AND PRESENT ON ONE PHOTO [20 PHOTOS]"

"We cannot travel in time and see what was happening many years ago, and we luckily do not see what was happening during WWII. But it will never stop to interest us. We still want to touch the history. On these photos two epochs were connected: war time and present days. In the centre of attention is the defence of Moscow. Look how it was and how it is today."

I recommend this particular article from the Internet web site English/Russian highly, without qualification or reservation. And thank you English/Russian.

OUTSTANDINGLY DONE AND A VERY GOOD IDEA!

Soviet T-34 tank parades through Moscow, 1941. Same locale, different road traffic in 2012. One of twenty such images. Go see them all!

Peruse at your leisure. Each and every image black and white melded with color. The former as it was in 1941. Color as it is in 2012.

BATTLE OF MOSCOW NOT SUCH A DIRE SITUATION FOR THE SOVIET AS GENERALLY THOUGHT TO HAVE BEEN.

That 5 December 1941 offensive of the Red Army the primary goal of which was TO DESTROY IN ENTIRETY THE GERMAN ARMY GROUP CENTER!!

And nearly did so.
