Mariupol.

This is coolbert:

From the Internet web site "South Front" Mariupol encircled. Militia units favorable the Ukraine trapped.

"NATIONALIST [neo-Nazi nationalists] FIGHTERS IN MARIUPOL CALL FOR HELP, AS RUSSIANS LEAVE THEM NO CHANCE: FIFTEENTH DAY OF MILITARY OPERATIONS IN UKRAINE"

ENCIRCLEMENT! AS IT WAS IN THE DAYS OF WORLD TWO ON THE EASTERN FRONT, SO AS IT IS NOW IN MARIUPOL!

"Encirclement is a military term for the situation when a force or target is isolated and surrounded by enemy forces."

[....]

"The mopping-up of the blockaded cities of Mariupol and Volnovakha continues. So far, in Mariupol, the units of the PM of the DPR [People's Militia, Donetsk People's Republic] have taken control of the quarters of Azovsky, Naide-novka, Lyapino, Vinogradar in the eastern part of the city and have reached the Azovstal power plant. In the western part of the city, the Western district was reportedly taken from Ukrainian forces."

"Fighters of the nationalist battalions [neo-Nazi nationalists] besieged in Mariupol are hoping for a counter-offensive of the AFU [Armed Forces Ukraine] from the north of the city. The Ukrainian military command has reportedly positively replied to such demands from Mariupol. However, the AFU definitely have no forces to counterattack the Russian groupings in the region. Russia and the DPR continue to increase their control zone north of Mariupol."

[....]

Ukrainian right-wing nationalist neo-Nazi militia trapped in Mariupol. Position hopeless? Encircled, surrounded by a much superior force in all directions. Surrender the ONLY option? Pockets of resistance continuing the fight however their position perhaps not so hopeless.

Ukrainian units trapped in such "pockets" of encirclement the fight not over, a besieged force defending from a series of strong-points further engagement with the enemy not so futile?

Pockets of troops encircled from the experience of the German army WW2 having three options, none of which was surrender.

Courses of Action [CoA] to include:

   1. Overland relief. 2. Breakout. 3. A "moving pocket".

Survival of a "pocket" depending upon:

   1. Morale. 2. Strong leadership/competent command.

Further with regard to morale consider:

    * Resupply. Ammunition, water, food, treatment of wounded.

Also as pertains to leadership:

    * Commander and subordinates share and endure all privations of the lower ranks.

See from the wiki entry the defense of the Kholm Pocket. Germans 1, Soviets 0.
