Aviation gasoline [AVGAS] U.S. Navy.
Thanks once more to the tip from Jay.
"Groundbreaking Report Gives Us a Glimpse of the US Military’s Gigantic Carbon Footprint"
"There are a lot of superlatives that can be used to describe the U.S. military. It represents the biggest chunk of the federal budget. It’s extremely good at killing people. And it’s also a prolific carbon emitter and serial oil user."
This Gizmodo article by Brian Kahn fails to mention perhaps that most "prolific" and profligate use of petroleum products by the U.S. military.
EACH AND EVERY SIX MONTH PATROL BY AN AMERICAN AIRCRAFT CARRIER ABOUT ONE MILLION GALLONS OF AVGAS IS RELEASED INTO THE OCEAN. AIRCRAFT PRIOR TO LANDING DUMPING EXCESS FUEL HIGHLY MITIGATING THE POSSIBILITY OF A CATASTROPHIC FIRE RESULTING FROM A CRASH WITH ALL THAT WOULD MEAN FOR THE WARSHIP!!
