This is coolbert:
Break out the Loonies! Budget Canada. Military spending Northern Warning System.
From "Blazing Cat Fur".
"Could Canada’s Arctic Defence Line Detect A Rocket From Russia? Not Anymore, Critics Say"
"With Canada under increased scrutiny about its defence spending in the wake of the Russian invasion of Ukraine, Ottawa’s plans to replace outdated radar systems in the north have taken on a new sense of urgency."
"Defence Minister Anita Anand has said she will present a 'robust package' of reforms to modernize the North American Aerospace Defense Command (NORAD) in a joint effort with the United States."
"A major component is expected to be the replacement of the North Warning System — a line of dozens of radar stations scattered throughout Canada’s North that was completed in the 1980s and is long overdue for updating." [click on map to see an enlarged view.]
Mostly now the threat from manned bomber warplanes [Russian] approaching North America is as stand-off aircraft firing missiles of either the cruise or hypersonic type. We are not even talking about BMEWS type radar of the type that would track in-coming ICBM. No more DEW Line, Mid-Canada Line, Pine Tree Line.
Most importantly, again see this as a result of the Ukraine Conflict. The catalyst for much-needed change and an expenditure of money appropriated beyond previous expectations.
After all, how in the future would be reasonably be expected to track the reindeer flight of Santa Claus?
