This is coolbert:
From Peter and his Internet web site we have this item. Douglas MacArthur his attitude and opinion pertinent to the Korean War and his position vis-a-vis the communist world not shared by the Joint Chiefs of Staff.
"A blast from a war long past"
DOUGLAS MACARTHUR HAVING BEEN RELIEVED OF COMMAND OF AMERICAN MILITARY FORCES IN THE FAR EAST, THAT DECISION OF PRESIDENT TRUMAN MOST CONTROVERSIAL AND REMAINS SO TO THIS DAY.
CONTROVERSY AS WAS SUBJECTED TO HIGH-LEVEL INVESTIGATION!
See here previous blog entry the pro and con regarding Douglas MacArthur.
"The Senate’s Armed Services and Foreign Relations Committees held joint hearings, at which MacArthur detailed his disagreement with the president and claimed the backing of the Joint Chiefs of Staff for his position."
"The joint chiefs contradicted him. The Senate hearings were closed to the public, but a transcript was released each day including all but the most sensitive comments."
Those hearing of the joint committees regarding the prosecution of the Korean War producing on a daily basis a transcript BUT THOSE MOST SENSITIVE ITEMS ONLY NOW MADE PUBLIC, AND ACCIDENTALLY SO AT THAT!
In the proverbial nutshell American military forces at that exact moment [1951] as deemed by the JCS NOT prepared in any sense of the word for a wider and expanded war, much less perhaps even a nuclear war of global proportions!!
Remarkable how one document from decades ago the content of which can so radically change your perception and goes a long way to answering questions debated unto this very day.
coolbert.
