Boots.

This is coolbert:

The fitness physical and mental of young American adults called into question with regard to military service. An issue recognized as being a problem for many decades.

American military service now across the board [?] having to lower standards to allow enlistment of prospective recruits.

Only 25 % of American young adults can meet basic requirements. Education. Physical health. Mental aptitude.

Biggest problems and disqualifiers again as long admitted overweight, arrest record, drug use, general lack of educational attainment.

NO GOOD REMEDY! AND HOW BAD?

"Military struggling to find new troops as fewer young Americans willing or able to serve"

MATT SEYLER | yahoo.com |  July 2, 2022 | ABC News.

"The U.S. military has a recruiting problem, with a former senior military official telling ABC News the viability of the all-volunteer force could be at stake."

[....]

"[According to] a former senior official, who maintains contact with active-duty leaders, said the poor shape of some incoming troops has led the Army to stop trying to have them run within the first two weeks of basic training.

"'They have to teach them how to run, and they've had issues with bone density to the point that, when they do run them, they've ended up breaking a leg or worse, a hip,' the former official said. 'I've even heard in some cases they're putting them on diets of Ensure -- you know, the stuff for old [people] like me -- in order to build that bone density.'"

THAT PAIR OF COMBAT BOOTS YOU ARE ISSUED IN BASIC TRAINING WEIGHS SIX POUNDS [ 2 & 3/4 KILOGRAMS]. FOR THOSE NOT USED TO RUNNING OR EVEN PERSONS USED TO RUNNING ON A REGULAR BASIS THE STRESS TOO MUCH FOR THE LOWER EXTREMITIES OF YOUR BODY!

[....]

Additionally with regard to the value of a recruit as having graduated high school:

"'If they had graduated from high school it meant that they had started something and had finished it. And they were far more likely to succeed in the Army because of that discipline,' the former official said."

Success not guaranteed but much better than those recruits a high school dropout.

Once more a problem with no easy or good remedy. If even a remedy exists at all!
