Those masks the student donning appear to be Soviet era GP-5 gas masks. Offered protection suitable at the time against chemical, biological and radiological poisoning.

Dig this stuff! GP-5 filters unsafe under all circumstances. Filters might contain cancer-causing ASBESTOS! Masks popular as a Halloween costume children and adults avoid! I implore you and you have been warned.
