Tripartite.

This is coolbert:

Invasion of Mexico 1862.

War making coalition of European partners, Great Britain, France, Spain. The goal to compel the Mexican repay debts.

I was well aware of the French invasion of Mexico, the establishment of a puppet regime the under the rule of Maximillian. But not aware of Spanish or English involvement.

"The Tripartite Expedition". Thanks to the wiki.

"On December 14, 1861 a Spanish Fleet sailed into and took possession of the port of Veracruz. The city was occupied on the 17. December. French and English forces arrived on January 7, 1862. On January 10th a manifesto was issued by Spanish General Juan Prim disavowing rumors that the allies had come to conquer or to impose a new government. It was emphasized that the three powers merely wanted to open negotiations regarding their claims of damages"

Headlines from the New York Times as dated 3 January 1862. Courtesy the tip from Freeper.

Just to OPEN NEGOTIATIONS to repay debt.

European powers during the time of the American Civil War seeking to take advantage of a situation. Use of brute force through a combined fleet and ground forces.
