This is coolbert:
CRAF = CIVIL RESERVE AIR FLEET.
American commercial aircraft activated for a wartime mission.
It seems I was wrong. CRAF has been used previously.
From the Webzine of the Coffee or Die Internet website courtesy the article by Matt Fratus.
"A SHORT HISTORY OF THE CIVIL RESERVE AIR FLEET"
"For just the third time in history, passenger airliners from several major American airlines have been activated to help carry out an emergency airborne evacuation — this time, to help American citizens, Afghan partner forces, and Afghan refugees escaping from Taliban-controlled Afghanistan. "
Previous instances of CRAF activation to include and now additionally Afghan:
* 2001. Iraq War I.
* 2003. Iraq War II.
* 2021. Afghanistan.
AMERICAN CRAF AIRLINERS WILL NOT FLY INTO THE COMBAT ZONE OF KABUL OR AFGHAN.
Pilots the preponderance either ex-military or reservists/National Guard aviators in some capacity. Very adept airmen, pilots with A LOT of experience.
Nonetheless, as I previously mentioned, the mere activation of CRAF surely is an indication of a desperate situation the amelioration of which cannot be accomplished with using assets on had.
