Danger!

This is coolbert:

The German Deutsche Welle claims as many as 200,000 have fled the approach of ISIL. That might include all persons and not merely Yazidi.

"Iraq's Yazidis in danger"

"Iraqi and American authorities are rushing to arrange airdrops of food and water to the Yazidis as tens of thousands of followers of the secretive religion flee fundamentalist gunmen who took over the Iraqi town of Sinjar on August 3rd. A Yazidi elder reached by phone said they were trying to climb high enough into the nearby mountains that members of the Islamic State would not follow."

Air Force.

This is coolbert:

I guess the best question that could be asked is WHAT TOOK SO LONG!

From only four hours ago and thanks to Yahoo:

"Maliki orders air force to help Kurds against the Islamic State"

"BAGHDAD (Reuters) - Iraq's Prime Minister Nuri al-Maliki ordered his air force for the first time to back Kurdish forces against Islamic State fighters after the Sunni militants made another dramatic push through the north, state television reported on Monday."

"Kurdish peshmerga fighters, who cut their teeth fighting Saddam Hussein's troops, were regarded as one of the few forces capable of standing up to the Sunni insurgents"

"Then on Sunday the Islamic State inflicted a humiliating defeat on the Kurds with a rapid advance through three towns to reach the Mosul Dam, acquiring a fifth oil field to fund its operations along the way."

Like I said BEFORE, even the peshmerga cannot stop these guys [ISIL]?

And close-air-support [CAS] is easier said than done, a certain degree of expertise needed to be effective. And the IRAQI POSSESSES SUCH EXPERTISE?

Salafi.

This is coolbert:

Salafi!

Within the context of ISIL this blog entry germane! Many previous blog entry having referred to the combatants of ISIL as Salafi.

“'I do not promise you, as the kings and rulers promise their followers and congregation, luxury, security and relaxation,' he said. 'Instead I promise you what Allah promised his faithful followers.'” - - al Baghdadi. Aka Caliph Ibrahim.

ISIL combatants and adherents best described as and understood as Salafists. Muslims adhering as close as possible to the original first three generations of Muslims from the time of Mohammad.

"The Salafi movement . . .  is a movement or sect within Islam that takes its name from the term salaf ('predecessors', 'ancestors') used to identify the earliest Muslims, who, its adherents believe, provide the epitome of Islamic practice." ''The people of my own generation are the best, then those who come after them, and then those of the next generation,'"- - Muhammad.

This Internet web site explains it best?

"From the Internet web site article "Salafism for Dummies"

"The word “Salafism” is on many reporters’ and analysts’ tongues these days . . .  Suddenly, Salafism seems to be everywhere"

"Defining Salafism is tricky. The Arabic salaf means 'ancestors' or 'forefathers,' a reference to the Prophet Muhammad, his Companions, and the succeeding two generations of Muslims. To say that Salafis today look to these generations as models for conduct and worship is true but insufficient, since other Muslims also define themselves in relation to the early Muslim community".

The Salafist eschews all form of secular law, those teachings of the Koran, sunnah, hadith the guide for good governance preferred, AND PHYSICAL COERCION GUARANTEEING COMPLIANCE!

ISIL III.

This is coolbert:

Conclusion.

NOW the Yazidi are in grave peril. Those persons classified by the Muslim as poly-theists. The Pack of Omar does apply to them. Either convert or die!!

"Islamic State Seize Town of Sinjar, Pushing Out Kurds and Sending Yazidis Fleeing (Iraq)"

"Al-Qaeda-inspired extremists seized control of the northern Iraqi town of Sinjar on Sunday [3 August], advancing against overstretched Kurdish forces and sending thousands of residents running for their lives."

"Families described scenes of panic as gunmen entered the town around 7 a.m. after Kurdish forces withdrew. The majority of residents are Yazidis, followers of a pre-Islamic faith, and the extremists accuse them of being devil worshipers."

“'People were terrified,' said Ilias al-Hussani, who like tens of thousands of others had fled on foot toward the mountains as soon as gunmen entered. 'They are savages. We’ve seen what they’ve done to people of their own faith. Imagine what they would do to us non-Muslims.'”

Concluding but not the conclusion. We are going to see much more, count on it.

ISIL II.

This is coolbert:

Indeed, yet more combat in Iraq, ISIL once more getting the best of the Kurd combatant.

ISIL does walk on water?

"Iraq jihadists seize another town from Kurdish forces"

"Sulaimaniyah (Iraq) (AFP) - Jihadists raised their black flag in Iraq's northern town of Sinjar Sunday [3 August] in a second straight day of advances against Kurdish forces, sparking mass displacement the UN called a humanitarian tragedy."

"The Islamic State's capture of Sinjar raised fears for minority groups that had found refuge there and further blurs the border between the Syrian and Iraqi parts of the 'caliphate' which the IS declared in June."

"The (Kurdish) peshmerga have withdrawn from Sinjar, Daash has entered the city,"

Peshmerga are those combatants loyal to the Kurdish people. Daash is the Iraqi term for ISIL.

ISIL I.

This is coolbert:

From just the other day. ISIL having resumed the offensive.

NOT EVEN the Kurds can stop these guys. ISIL seems to walk on water!!

"Islamic State grabs Iraqi dam, oilfield in victory over Kurds"

"Islamic State fighters seized control of Iraq's biggest dam, an oilfield and three more towns on Sunday [3 August] after inflicting their first major defeat on Kurdish forces since sweeping through the region in June."

"Capture of the Mosul Dam after an offensive of barely 24 hours could give the Sunni militants the ability to flood major Iraqi cities or withhold water from farms"

See the Daniel Pipes blog entry on the dams of Iraq and the significance thereof.

Zumar & Sinjar.

This is coolbert:

Yet more instance of ISIL combatants on the move.

That period of Ramadan over, ISIL feels confident they have consolidated their position, the self-proclaimed Caliphate can now be expanded. This time further incursions into Kurdish controlled areas.

"ISIL fighters seize Kurdish towns in Iraq’s north"

"Mosul governor Atheel al-Nujaifi, who fled to the largely autonomous Kurdish region when the Islamic State group and allied Sunni fighters seized Iraq’s second largest city in June, told The Associated Press on Sunday [3 August?] that the towns of Zumar and Sinjar fell after fierce clashes that erupted the day before."

The Kurds have appealed for American help to combat the ISIL threat. Will such be forthcoming?
