"WASHINGTON, Wednesday, Feb. 6."
"FROM FORT SUMTER."
"THE WOMEN AND CHILDREN SENT AWAY. THEIR ARRIVAL THIS PORT ON BOARD [the commercial steamship] MARION - - CONDITION OF THE GARRISON."
"The sending away of the families of the officers and men at Fort Sumter, in anticipation of a possible attack, was announced by telegraph several day ago. yesterday the steamer Marion arrived from Charleston, having among her passengers these persons, fifty-six in all, twenty five of them children."
REMOVAL OF WOMEN AND CHILDREN A SURE AND CERTAIN SIGN OF IMPENDING MILITARY ACTION! A SIGNAL UNMISTAKEABLE AND SURE RECOGNIZED AS SO BY THE INSURGETS BESIEGING FORT SUMTER!
