DPICM = Dual Purpose Improved Conventional Munitions.
"dud: noun - 3 | a bomb or missile that fails to explode"
For the Ukrainian the latest and greatest only? For American troops what remains in the inventory adequate even if less than effective?
"US plans to send controversial cluster munitions to Ukraine"
From https://www.bbc.com | by Madeline Halpert.
"The US will send Ukraine a cluster munitions package to help in its counteroffensive against Russia."
American 155 mm howitzer ammunition of the DPICM variety. Cluster munitions that can cause the same amount of damage as a tactical atomic weapon. Dual-purpose effective against both personnel and soft-skinned and lightly-armored enemy vehicles.
"The White House said it had postponed the decision for as long as it could because of the risk of civilian harm from such unexploded ordnance."
[....]
"Mr Sullivan told reporters that the cluster munitions America will send to Ukraine have a dud rate of less than 2.5%, describing that as far below Russia's cluster munition dud rate, which US officials say is between 30-40%."
[....]
"US law prohibits the transfer of cluster munitions with bomblet failure rates higher than 1% - meaning more than 1% of the bomblets in the weapon do not explode - but President Biden is able to bypass this rule."
Cluster munitions already have being used by BOTH sides in the Ukraine Conflict. Just that American cluster munitions have a much LOWER rate of failure.
Again, the problem from my perspective as I see it the Ukrainian receiving the best and most effective [dud rate <2.5 %] of American stockpile cluster munitions, American troops in case of some contingency going to have to be satisfied with something other than the best! This I do not like!
