Such should be within the context of the previous blog entry a question that can be legitimately asked?

NATO already possessing in their secondary munitions arsenal a semi-automatic sniper rifle at least as good as the Heckler and Koch G28. That weapon of course being the Soviet era Dragunov SVD sniper rifle.

The entire doctrine of the designated marksman as conceptualized by Soviet military planners over fifty years ago.

That designated marksman in the Soviet model able to deliver a high-rate of sustained, long-range and accurate semi-automatic high-power rifle fire on an adversary.

That PSO-1 scope of the SVD rifle also infra-red sensitive. I have thought that feature to be used by Soviet designated marksman during night-time operations, shooting out the xenon searchlights of American M-60 tanks as were equipped at the time!
