For some time, at least since the siege of Kobane has begun, ISIL has not had a lot of recent major victories. Until now. This since 6 December and I have not seen reported elsewhere.

"The Islamic State achieved an important gain Saturday with the conquest of the eastern Syrian air base of Deir el-Zor near the Iraqi border. Its fighters routed the Syrian army defenders of the 137th Brigade and so lifted the threat of Syrian air assault on the oilfields it captured and the road links between Syria and Iraq."

The ISIL onslaught continues unabated? We hold our breath for but for too long.
