This is coolbert:
My instantaneous thought regarding the recent attack on the Indian air force base of Pathankot was TO WHAT EXTENT WERE NUCLEAR WEAPON ASSETS IF ANY ENDANGERED!
The Indian air force does have contingents of dedicated infantry a primary mission of which is guarding air force bases.
This is the Garud Commando.
A unit having both an offensive and defensive capability:
"The Garud Commando Force is the Special Forces unit of the Indian Air Force. It was formed in September 2004 and has a strength of approximately 2000 personnel."
"Garud is tasked with the protection of critical Air Force bases and installations; search and rescue during peace and hostilities and disaster relief during calamities."
Attacks of this nature such as just occurred at Pathankot not existing in a vacuum:
"After attempts by terrorists to attack two major air bases in Jammu and Kashmir in 2001, Indian Air Force commanders felt the need for a specialized force to protect these critical elements and to have a dedicated Commando Force trained in Special Forces techniques . . . [to include] . . . response to terror-threats to airfields."
Garud Commando indeed active and deploying for battle during this terrorist incursion:
"On January 2, 2016, the unit took a casualty during the 2016 Pathankot attack when Commando Gursewak Singh died in action. All the IAF assets were declared safe."
Those various nations having Air Force infantry to include but not necessarily limited to the United States, Britain, France, Germany, Australia, Malaysia, India.
See previous blog entries the topic of which is air force infantry:
