This is coolbert:
Before there Trident UK there was Polaris UK. Some historical perspective is appropriate with regard to the current British debate to replace the current Vanguard class SSBN with a more modern Dreadnought SSBN.
"The United Kingdom's Polaris programme provided the first submarine-based British nuclear weapons system."
"'Polaris' itself was an operational system of four Resolution-class submarines, each armed with 16 UGM-27 Polaris A-3 ballistic missiles, with each missile able to deliver three ET.317 thermonuclear warheads around a single target. This configuration was later upgraded to carry two hardened warheads along with a range of decoys."
As with the current Vanguard class SSBN the British with Polaris UK:
* Developing and manufacturing their own submarines. To include the nuclear power plant. The Resolution-class submarines.
* Providing heir own warhead for the Polaris missile. This was the ET.317 warhead. BETTER THAN THE AMERICAN VERSION!
BRITISH EXPERTS ALSO OF THE OPINION THAT AMERICAN WARHEAD FOR THE POLARIS MISSILE UNSAFE!! RATHER BETTER DESCRIBED AS UNRELIABLE?
THOSE RESOLUTION CLASS SSBN ALSO THOUGHT FOR A NUMBER OF REASONS TO BE SUPERIOR TO THE AMERICAN COUNTER-PART.
