Solomons.

This is coolbert:

Still more extracts with my commentary WW2 headlines from:

"THE NEW YORK TIMES
COMPLETE WORLD WAR II
The Coverage of the Entire Conflict"

Headlines: "COVERAGE from the BATTLE FIELD to the HOME FRONT"

NOVEMBER 17, 1942

"ENEMY 'COMPLETELY FRUSTRATED' IN SOLOMON ISLANDS"

"Our Losses Are Only 2 Light Cruisers and 6 Destroyers Sunk"

"WE SINK BATTLESHIP"

"5 Cruisers Also in Toll - - Japanese, Confused, Fire on Each Other"

By CHARLES HURD
Special to The New York Times

"WASHINGTON  NOV 16 - - United States naval forces in the Solomons overwhelmingly defeated a formidable Japanese force, destroying twenty-three warships and transports, including one battleship and five cruisers, in a three-day series of actions that ended yesterday (Solomons date), the Navy Department reported today."

THIS WAS THE NAVAL BATTLE OF GUADALCANAL [PHASE ONE AND PHASE TWO] SURFACE NAVAL ACTION AT NIGHT OF THE OLD-SCHOOL VARIETY. BROADSIDES EXCHANGED BETWEEN SURFACE VESSELS NO INTERVENTION AND PARTICIPATION BY COMBAT WARPLANES LIMITED!!

JAPANESE NAVY AT THAT EXACT MOMENT IN TIME THAT MOST PROFESSIONAL AND COMBAT EXPERIENCED IN THE WORLD.

"Casualties and losses" as reported by The New York Times pretty much accurate, actually under-counting the number of Japanese battleships lost.
