From the latest edition of the DEBKAfile newsletter:
"Saudi and Egyptian marines capture Iran-held island at Red Sea choke point"
12 December.
In a pivotal breakthrough in the Yemen civil war, Thursday, Dec. 11, Saudi, Egyptian and UAR marines seized from Yemen’s Iran-backed Houthi rebels the Greater Hanish island, which is part of the strategic archipelago commanding the Strait of Bab al Mandeb, DEBKAfile reports. This strait links the Indian Ocean with the Gulf of Aden and the Red Sea – i.e. Africa and Asia. Iran had converted the island into a regional arms supply depot and observation point for tracking regional shipping, including Israeli sea traffic from Eilat, through the world’s fourth busiest choke point. The Saudis led the operation to seize the island after Iran established an air and sea base in Djibouti on the opposite Horn of Africa coast.
AS IT WAS IN THE DAY OF ADMIRAL SIR JACKIE FISHER OVER ONE HUNDRED YEARS AGO SO AS IT IS NOW!! THAT MARITIME CHOKE POINT OF BAB AL MANDEB VITAL TO INTERNATIONAL COMMERCE. CONTROL OF THE STRAIT THROUGH OCCUPATION OF ADEN SEEN AS VITAL TO BRITISH AND WESTERN INTERESTS UNTIL RELATIVELY RECENT TIME!
NEW PLAYERS NOW ACT OUT THE ROLE!!
