This is coolbert:

From the banner headlines of the New York Times as of 4/12/1861. Thanks to Freeper.

NEW-YORK, FRIDAY, APRIL 12, 1861,

* "THE WAR IMMINENT."

* "Formal Demand for the Surrender of Fort Sumpter."

* "THE REFUSAL OF MAJ. ANDERSON."

* "The Bombardment Probably to Commence Immediately."

* "THE WAR FLEET OFF THE HARBOR."

* "The Entire Government Forces Destined for Charleston."

* "WARLIKE PREPARATIONS AT SAVANNAH."

All has been made ready. Preparations complete. Demands made and refused. No backing down now. AND for four years into the future. The die has been cast.

"On Friday, April 12, 1861, at 4:30 a.m., Confederate batteries opened fire on the fort, firing for 34 straight hours"
