I doubt this story has a whole lot of validity. Novaya Gazeta is a newspaper in opposition to Vlad. Expect their reporting to be anything but biased?

To be clear this is a sampling of 100 JOURNALISTS as mobilized by Vlad Putin for the Ukraine Conflict. 20 % already have died and NONE from combat.

ACCIDENTAL discharge of weapons with a loss of life however seems a possible in some instances. Or getting run over by tracked vehicles also not an uncommon event in mechanized warfare. But 20 % seems way too high!!
