Presumably this involves some sort of net-centric targeting. A whole host of sensors providing fire-control information to the firing unit.

Think not merely distance. Think also accuracy and lethality. Think also net-centric targeting.

MISSILES EXPENSIVE, ARTILLERY ROUNDS MUCH LESS SO.
