Foreigners.

This is coolbert:

As was noted by the American intelligence community and the article by Joseph ISIL does indeed present an existential threat to the region of the Middle East and beyond.

From the latest issue of the DEBKAfile news letter:

"ISIS doubles its foreign contingent in Syria, study says"

"The number of foreigners fighting in the ranks of Islamic State in Syria has doubled over the last 16 months and now stands at approximately 27,000 - most come from Arab countries, the US-based Soufan research institute said Tuesday. Tunisians account for about 6,000, with Saudis (2,500) and Russia (2,400) in second and third places, followed by 2,100 fighters from Turkey and 2,000 from Jordan. Another approximately 5,000 ISIS fighters come from Europe, with 20 to 30 percent returning to their countries of origin. Among the Europeans are 1,800 French, 760 Britons, 760 Germans and 470 Belgians."

"Being born in a barn does not necessarily make one a horse." Being born in France, England or Germany does not necessarily make one a Frenchman, an Englishman, or a German as persons of those nationalities normally, ordinarily, and commonly understood.

The incorporation of foreign fighters into ISIL combat units a particular feature of the Islamic State. There cannot be denied among the umma [the worldwide Islamic community] the Caliphate does have a certain appeal much stronger than we would like to believe.
