Eleventh!

This is coolbert:

The eleventh hour of the eleventh day of the eleventh month!! The end of the Great War [WW1].

As covered by the headlines of the Chicago Tribune at the time [1918]. Building to a crescendo and as seen at the latest edition of the:

"CHICAGO FLASHBACK"

"End of a world war"

"'The Great War' - - the forerunner we now call World "War I - - approached its final days in mid-October 1918. German troops were in full retreat, their government's surrender imminent. The U.S. president and the German Kaiser seemed to be negotiating the end of hostilities by international cable on the front pages of the world's newspapers. Here are select headlines from the last five weeks of the supposed 'war to end all wars.'"

OCTOBER 7.

"HUNS CRY FOR PARLEY"

OCTOBER 9.

"NO TRUCE - - WILSON"

OCTOBER 10.

"GERMAN ARMIES RUN"

OCTOBER 24.

"SURRENDER!" "WILSON AGAIN TELLS KAISER"

NOVEMBER 4.

"AUSTRIA QUITS WAR"

NOVEMBER 9

"'I'LL HOLD THRONE' - - KAISER"

NOVEMBER 10.

"PEACE AT HAND" "KAISER OFF THE THRONE"

NOVEMBER 11.

"GREAT WAR ENDS"

At that exact moment in time [1918] participants must have thought that the Great War was indeed a war to end all wars. We know now that was not the case, but again, surely that was the perception, soldiers and diplomats both!
