This is coolbert:
Understand this entry to the blog edited from the original, my powers of elocution having escaped me the first time.
This headline from StrategyPage not exactly what I thought it was.
"Iraq Loads Up On 120mm"
120 mm not referring to the Soviet Cold War era mortar M1938.
120 mm that smooth-bore cast-iron Soviet mortar from the era of the Cold War. That mortar firing a cast-iron mortar round [called a bomb in most nations of the world] the splintering of which is most devastating and deadly.
What the Iraqi National Army [INA] exactly needs.
Low-tech weaponry of simplicity and most suitable for the INA in their fight against ISIL. A towed mortar of significant and deadly caliber, almost any sort of pick-up truck [Toyota preferred in that part of the world] as a prime mover and ammunition carrier.
Instead 120 mm as the round fired from the Abrams M1 American tank. Abrams a high-technology weapon system.
THINK RATHER WHAT THE IRAQI AT THIS POINT IN TIME NEEDS NOW AND DESPERATELY SO IS WEAPONRY CHEAP AND DIRTY THAT WORKS AND IN PROFUSION!!
That defeat of the Iraqi National Army not from a lack of Apache helicopters, Hellfire missiles, Frogfoot ground attack aircraft or Abrams tanks. Is from a lack of resolve and superior leadership.
Three years at a minimum to defeat ISIL if and when the deed is finally accomplished expect it not to be from Abrams main gun tank rounds.
coolbert.
