This is coolbert:
Riverine task force, ISIL style!
As noted in the article, for some time ISIL has had ground troops, then with the capture of the Syrian Tabqa air base evidently obtained combat warplanes. NOW ISIL demonstrates a riverine capability as well.
"ISIS Now Has A Navy, Launches Gunboat Attack Near Baghdad"
"First it was UN and US military hardware and artillery, second it was hijacked Syrian fighter jets, and now ISIS has 'commandeered' a Navy. As Reuters reports, Islamic State fighters attacked a riverside town north of Baghdad on Monday with gunboats and a car bomb, killing 17 people and wounding 54, a security source said."
The Land Between the Two Rivers well suited for riverine operations. Brown water craft able to move relatively freely and without hindrance. Move troops and heavy weapons assets via barge or small boat to where needed and do so in an expeditious manner.
Also Baghdad will be required to defend in all places, valuable combat unit relegated to a strictly static and defensive role.
One if by land, two if by sea, three if by air and we are ready to go. ISIL if nothing else very innovative and adaptable.
