This is coolbert:
More on the U.S. Marine Corps Infantry officer qualification course. Women now allowed for the program, three months of hell I might assume but producing superior "man-power" able to lead a platoon of infantry into combat.
That Second Lieutenant infantry officer leading a platoon of infantry into combat described by Eisenhower as "THE MOST DIFFICULT JOB IN THE WORLD!!"
With that I might concur and do so intuitively!
"Women officers of the U.S. Marine Corps now allowed to Female Marines Fail Infantry Officer Course"
"The women failed the introductory Combat Endurance Test, a punishing test of physical strength and endurance, officials at Marine Corps headquarters said Tuesday. The latest class began March 28 at Marine Corps Base Quantico, Va., with 110 lieutenants participating. Ninety-six men passed the initial endurance test. Twelve men and two women — the only female Marines taking part — failed."
* Please note that this is an INTRODUCTORY part of the course. Merely to test your physical aptitude and determine if you are prepared for the remainder of the course. INTRODUCTORY. If you cannot pass the INTRODUCTORY portion might as well not even begin the course period.
* About ten percent [10 %] of the men failed this same introductory test!! Presumably these Marines, all of them ALREADY OFFICERS are aware of what will be expected of them? Perfect push-ups, perfect sit-ups, perfect pull-ups.
These candidates again already officers but seeking infantry platoon leader qualification.
As with other military schools and courses, let it be understood too that qualification probably only teaches you about fifty percent [50 %] of what you need to know to be able to perform and do the job properly. The remainder of the tasks and skills requisite must be acquired on-the-job [OJT] training and cannot be taught.
A high percentage of that remaining 50 % skill-set being more psychological than physical, leading troops in combat who can deny that task difficult in the EXTREME!
HEY, nobody ever said any of this was going to be easy.
