This is coolbert:
Conclusion.
Originally this was LREW. Long Range Engagement Weapon. NOW called AIM-260.
From the WAR ZONE and the article by JOSEPH TREVITHICK.
Boeing 747 a military version using the LREW as and air-to-air [ATA] weapon. Net-centric targeting that commercial airliner retrofitted and heavily modified an aspect of American air dominance doctrine and operational capability.
"Meet The AIM-260, The Air Force And Navy's Future Long-Range Air-To-Air Missile"
"Concerns about the improving capabilities of China's air-to-air missiles pushed the services to quietly begin the program two years ago."
"The U.S. Air Force and the U.S. Navy have been quietly working together to develop a new air-to-air missile called the AIM-260 that will replace the venerable AIM-120 Advanced Medium Range Air-to-Air Missile, or AMRAAM. The two services are worried that the Chinese, in particular, have begun to out-range American fighter jets with their own advanced air-to-air missiles."
Chinese threat as posed by the PL-15 and subsequent in-the-works PL-21 long-range air-air missile countered by Boeing 747 military carrying prodigious numbers of LREW!
This is the hope.
