Severomorsk.

This is coolbert:

The big bang! Soviet style!

"SOVIET NAVAL BLAST CALLED CRIPPLING"

Yet one more instance of military service and the inherent risk that is undeniable!

From the New York Times as originally [?] the story in the AP.

And dated: July 11, 1984. Nonetheless still relevant within the context of danger to military personnel even during a time of peace!

"LONDON, July 10— An authoritative British military publication said today that an explosion at a Soviet naval base in May crippled the fighting capacity of the Northern Fleet,"

"First reports of the blast came last month from United States intelligence officials, who said that it occurred May 13 in an ammunition depot at Severomorsk, northeast of Murmansk, on the Kola Peninsula."

"The officials said the explosion had been the result of carelessness and had killed 200 to 300 people. It was so powerful that it was thought at first to have been a nuclear accident."

THOUGHT TO HAVE BEEN POSSIBLY AND INADVERTENT DETONATION OF AN ATOMIC WEAPON WHEN FIRST DETECTED. WE WOULD LIKE TO THINK SUCH AN OCCURRENCE IS IMPOSSIBLE BUT WHO KNOWS FOR CERTAIN. SORTA LIKE THE NAVAL OFFICER IN DEVONPORT LAUNCHING A TORPEDO NOT EVEN FOLLOWING ALL PROCEDURES AND PROTOCOLS AS CAREFULLY PRESCRIBED!
