The city has been cut off from all communication with the rest of Germany as a result of destruction of the telegraph station, post office, railroad station and high command headquarters, the report said."

Dresden subjected to both saturation and fire-bombing. Image courtesy of Bundesarchive.

That amount of damage all done in a single day with enormous human casualties. 70,000 DEAD in the immediate aftermath of the bombing. That figure disputed with alternative far-ranging numbers as proposed by various advocates.

THE DESTRUCTION OF DRESDEN BY THE COMBINED ALLIED BOMBER FORCE A POINT OF CONTENTION AND CONTROVERSY TO THIS DAY.

"Concede Our Industrial Might but Put Faith in Japan's 'Spirtual superiority'"

By ROBERT TRUMBULL

By Wireless to The New York Times.

"Saipan, Feb. 15 - - What does the average Japanese feel and think - - about the war, about the United States, about democracy?"

Japanese civilians as captured by U.S. military forces subjected to "polling". That such a thing was even done was a surprise to me.

"To get the answer to questions such as these, language officers on Saipan conducted a poll in Camp Suspe, where 13,241 Japanese on Saipan are housed."

Some results of the polling found to be very surprising:

"the poll discloses contradictory habits of thought that American officers have found to be characteristic of the Oriental enemy here and elsewhere."

* "SOME NEVER HEARD OF U.S."

* "FEAR A MAJOR FACTOR"

* "LONG WAR PREDICTED"

Saipan the first time large numbers of Japanese civilians encountered and captured by American forces during the various island-hopping campaigns of the Second World War. Many Japanese civilians on the island committing suicide, "death before dishonor" and that sort of thing.

"There was heavy fighting on the  northern sector of the Third Army's front as well yesterday. Thionville is now largely held by General Patton's troops and the German situation in Metz is becoming more precarious hourly."

NO! Third Army becoming mired in a three-month siege directed against the German fortresses of Metz. Ancient and antiquated structures as manned by troops of rather poor quality but possessing some considerable fighting spirit. This was a serious mistake on the part of Patton!!

Ham, butter, tea, whisky, cigarettes. What would the world do without them? And especially during war time. Everyone does their bit and sacrifices but not too much! Priorities!

RAMBO.

This is coolbert:

Rise of the machines weaponry?

"RAMBO (Rapid Additively Manufactured Ballistics Ordnance)"

Thanks to FoxNews and the article by Kelly Hodgkins.

"Meet RAMBO, the Army's new 3D-printed grenade launcher"

"You know 3D-printing has hit the big leagues when the military starts using the technology to produce weapons. Researchers at the U.S. Army Armament Research, Development, and Engineering Center last week announced the successful development and firing of a 3D-printed grenade from a 3D-printed grenade launcher."

. . . .

"The RAMBO grenade launcher is comprised of 50 parts, and all of the components, except the springs and fasteners, were produced using 3D-printing. Different parts of the grenade launcher, however, were manufactured using different materials and additive manufacturing techniques --"

RAMBO is a 40 mm unit? Current 40 mm ammunition compatible? I would like to own one of these.

The robots of SkyNet and the Rise of the Machines will be able to 3D print launchers of this type in abundance and commensurate with machine technology, devoid of human intervention? Sci-fi becomes closer than we think? Sentience needed but that is at hand.

The machines say thank you.

THAAD.

This is coolbert:

Terminal High Altitude Area Defense.

Beginning with a headline from the excellent Internet web site 38North. A web site devoted to the Korean situation in all manifestations.I highly recommend 38North without qualification or reservation. Devoted readers to the blog need to either bookmark or favorite.

"38 North is a website devoted to analysis of North Korea. While it strives to break new ground, the site’s main objective is to bring the best possible analysis to both seasoned North Korea watchers and general audiences alike"

That headline as extracted from 38North as regard to the American decision to deploy THAAD to the Korean Peninsula.

"THAAD: A Critical Litmus Test for South Korea-China Relations"

That deployment of THAAD taken very badly by the Chinese. Seen as a provocation. THAAD will be able to deny the Chinese missile nuclear deterrence?

THAAD providing missile interception and destruction of incoming warheads as fired by a ballistic missile.

Surprising that the Chinese have such a terrible hissy-fit over a theater anti-ballistic missile system? THAAD is directed against the North Korean threat and not China?

THAT FEAR OF THE CHINESE THAAD FROM BASES IN SOUTH KOREA [ROK] ABLE TO INTERCEPT AND DESTROY CHINESE MISSILES DURING THE BOOST PHASE OF FLIGHT?

THIS PERCEPTION NOT CORRECT?

THAAD what is described as an endo-atmospheric interceptor. Designed to destroy a warhead on the downward trajectory and that alone!

See these images illustrating the capability and operation of THAAD. Images worth more than words.

The THAAD system not a danger to the Chinese. Radars of THAAD however will give very early warning of a Chinese missile strike on the United States, if and when such an unfortunate event might occur! Trajectory of Chinese missiles inbound to the United States that much better determined and intercept by other American anti-ballistic-missile defense more assured!!

ATACMS.

This is coolbert:

Coastal artillery American?

A blast from the past literally so! American rocket artillery systems as modified being given a mission for which I think most experts thought was archaic and passe' not even worthy of consideration.

From Strategy Page:

"Artillery: American Coastal Artillery Gets Long Reach"

"March 7, 2017: The U.S. Army is once more upgrading its MGM140 ATACMS (Army Tactical Missile Systems) artillery rockets. The ATACMS is a 610mm ballistic missile that fits in the same size container that normally holds six 227mm MLRS rockets. The new upgrade is because it was realized that ATACMS has sufficient range to reach ships far offshore . . . it is not a difficult feat to develop a terminal guidance system for ATACMS that searches for a certain size ship and heads for it while moving at more than a thousand meters a second (faster than a very speedy bullet)".

Dig this stuff regarding that transporter vehicle: "The windows are made of glass and layers of sapphire." Blast of the missile on launch [a missile in the sense of being guided] must create an intense heat that melt or severely damage glass? Precaution taken to mitigate the problem expensive?

COASTAL ARTILLERY IN THE DAYS UP UNTO AND INCLUDING THE SECOND WORLD WAR A SEPARATE BRANCH OF THE ARMY WITH WHAT WAS PERCEIVED AS AN IMPORTANT MISSION. THIS MIGHT BECOME THE CASE AGAIN?

coolbert.

Invasion Syria!

This is coolbert:

"Any foreign troops coming to Syria without our invitation ... are invaders. ... We don't think this is going to help." - - Assad.

From the Sheldon Adelson Internet web site Israel Hayom the comments of the Syrian despot Assad regarding the deployment of American military units in force to northern Syria.

"US soldiers deployed in Syria are invaders, says Assad"

"Syrian president says additional American troops sent to fight Islamic State arrived 'without invitation' • Nothing will come of Geneva peace talks, U.S. rhetoric on Syria,The United States is leading a coalition against Islamic State in Iraq and Syria. In Syria, the U.S. is working with an alliance of Kurdish and Arab militias. Their current focus is on encircling and capturing Raqqa, Islamic State's base of operations in Syria."

. . . .

"Last week, the U.S.-led coalition announced that around 400 additional U.S. forces had deployed to Syria to help with the Raqqa campaign and to prevent any clash between Turkey and U.S.-allied Syrian militias, which Ankara sees as a threat."

PLEASE VIEW THE EMBEDDED VIDEO OF THE STRYKER VEHICLES. NOT ONE AMERICAN TROOP VISIBLE! I AM NOT SURE WHAT THAT MEANS.

And yes, the deployment "without invitation" does represent an invasion, however benign and however well-intentioned.

Everything is now coming to a crescendo? See previous blog entries as germane to the topic:

Musings & Rocks.

This is coolbert:

Here with two Internet web sites I recommend highly and without qualification or reservation. Devoted readers to the blog need to bookmark or favorite and visit on a regular basis.

1. "MUSINGS ON IRAQ"

"Iraq News, Politics, Economics, Society"

"Musings On Iraq was started in 2008 to explain the political, economic, security and cultural situation in Iraq via original articles and interviews. I have written for the Jamestown Foundation, Tom Ricks’ Best Defense at Foreign Policy and the Daily Beast, and was responsible for a chapter in the book Volatile Landscape: Iraq And Its Insurgent Movements." - - Joel Wing.

2. "War on the Rocks"

"In a world in which relative power levels are narrowing and means are diluted, America’s historical black hole, a bifurcation between policy and operations, must be closed.  Given that our country expects great sacrifices from those toiling at the tactical level, much more can and should be expected at the summit.  It is my expectation that War on the Rocks will help fill in the black hole.”

"The War on the Rocks Mission Statement". - -  Frank Hoffman

For his reporting on the situation in Iraq Andrew Cockburn draws heavily on material as originally seen at "Musings"? Appears to be so.

Mokha.

This is coolbert:

From that latest edition of the DEBKAfile news letter"

"US intel warns shipping to beware of Houthi mines"

 6 March.

"The US Office of Naval Intelligence (ONI) warned merchant ships of the dangers of mines set by Iranian-backed Yemeni rebel Houthis in the Bab al-Mandeb Strait near Yemen's Mokha port entrance . . . ONI added that attacks on ships in the strait, especially commercial ones, will trigger the involvement of other parties, pointing out that the US Navy will deploy all the needed efforts to protect the freedom of ships. Bab el-Mandeb, which is 25 kilometers wide, is a very important and crowded waterway for global navigation, through which merchant ships in the Gulf of Aden sail to the Red Sea, and then to the Suez Canal and the Mediterranean Sea . . . [daily] more than 60 commercial ships and 3.3 million barrels of oil a day cross the strait."

Mokha port. That apparently is a merchant vessel laying on it's side? Maybe hit a mine and sank?

A whole bunch of players [combatants] in the Yemeni Civil War. The Houthi rebels, Iranians and their Hezbollah proxies on one side [all Shia]. The forces of the Yemeni central government, Saudi and various other foreign interventionists on the other side [Sunni]. American naval forces enforcing a free "navigation and use of the sea"the vicinity Bab el-Mandeb.

FB Syria.

This is coolbert:

From the Lew Rockwell Internet web site we have the Facebook Twitter entry the subject of which is the deployment of U.S. Marine artillery to Syria.

"U.S. Firebase In Syria" by Jack Perry

"Sure enough! News is now reporting the Marines in Syria are there to establish a firebase for 155m howitzers to be used in fire support missions for the Syrian “rebels”. Yes, well, that’s the schematic for firebases, after all: Artillery. I bet this base comes under attack and gets beefed up by U.S. troops now deploying into Kuwait. I predict we’ll be a full-scale shooting war soon. I wonder what they’ll name this one? Operation Twitter Doom?"

Firebase comes under attack!!

Reminds me of the Vietnam War and the Battle of LZ Bird.

A LZ [Landing Zone] for heliborne troops BUT MUCH MORE THAN THAT!

Bird occupied by one company of American infantry and two batteries [company-size] units of artillery. Twelve [?] pieces of tube artillery, 105 mm/155 mm.

The fighting at Bird desperate in the extreme. American artillery firing point-blank and using the famous beehive round to defeat the attackers [North Vietnamese Army].

U.S MARINES EACH AND EVERY MAN TRAINED AS A RIFLEMAN REGARDLESS OF MILITARY SPECIALTY. ABLE TO FIGHT AS INFANTRY ON DEMAND AND DO SO VERY WELL.

No repetitions of Bird in Syria? Let us hope not.

"It has been a damned nice thing - the nearest run thing you ever saw in your life...By God!" - - Wellington in the aftermath of Waterloo.

coolbert.

USMC Raqqa.

This is coolbert:

As seen at the online edition of the Stars and Strips, that original article from the AP:

"Official: Couple hundred US Marines go into Syria" by Lolita C. Baldor.

Gunners to man and operate howitzers in support of the SDF assault on Raqqa I might assume.

"WASHINGTON — A couple hundred Marines have deployed into Syria with heavy artillery guns, as part of the ongoing preparation for the fight to oust the Islamic State group from its self-declared headquarters of Raqqa, a senior U.S. official said Wednesday."

Everyone is making ready for the big push!! Syrian Democratic Forces [SDF] to enter Raqqa and destroy the nest of the serpent? That is what I see. And not far off now. CALIPH BEWARE!

See previous blog entries that all add up:

http://militaryanalysis.blogspot.com/2017/03/stryker-manbij.html

http://militaryanalysis.blogspot.com/2017/03/75th-ranger.html

http://militaryanalysis.blogspot.com/2017/03/raqqa.html

http://militaryanalysis.blogspot.com/2017/03/epic.html

coolbert.

Epic!

This is coolbert:

As seen at Freeper and a DEBKAfile exclusive:

"Epic US, Russian, Turkish Military Summit on Syria"

"For the first time ever, the top soldiers of the United States, Russia and Turkey are holding a secret meeting in the Turkish town of Antalya for an urgent two-day effort to avert a clash between their three armies, which stand ominously face to face in northern Syria."

See previous blog entries most germane to the topic of foreign intervention in Syria:

http://militaryanalysis.blogspot.com/2017/03/75th-ranger.html

http://militaryanalysis.blogspot.com/2017/03/rojpesh-ybs.html

This not necessary a coalition, willing or unwilling. Each and every part having their own agenda and goals. NOT working together in a collaborative manner but attempting to prevent or minimize  inadvertent missteps the dynamics of which are not calculable.

Stryker Manbij.

This is coolbert:

More on the deployment of the Stryker combat behicles to Syria. Those Stryker carrying American Ranger units? Thanks to Freeper.

"US Stryker Deployment to Manbij, Syria Appears to Have Been a Blocking Move"

"Those big armored fighting vehicles are not inconspicuous — and that appears to have been the point. Last weekend, US Stryker armored fighting vehicles appeared seemingly out of nowhere in Syria and descended onto the Kurdish-held town of Manbij. Their arrival was anything but inconspicuous, as the convoy of multiple Strykers, in various configurations, along with tricked-out Humvees rolled across the Euphrates river in broad daylight, with giant American flags whipping in the air above them. After we reported on the story, the vehicles appeared to have made it to Manbij, and proceeded to move all around the vicinity of the city..."

THIS IS EITHER A SHOW OF FORCE OR RANGERS AS OCCUPYING A BLOCKING POSITION?

Show of force: A show of force is a military operation intended to warn (such as a warning shot) or to intimidate an opponent by showcasing a capability or will to act if one is provoked.

Blocking position: A defensive position so sited as to deny the enemy access to a given area or to prevent the enemy's advance in a given direction.

A blocking position of which the mission is to establish a strict demarcation line? That SDF objective Raqqa and the mission to attain the expulsion of the Islamic State INTERFERENCE by outside forces not desirable?

This is coolbert:

United we stand! Divided we fall!

From the USA TODAY as seen in the Chicago Sun Times from yesterday and thanks to Getty Images. More on the USMC iPhone scandal.

"NATION/WORLD"

"IN BRIEF"

"Top marine addresses social media allegations"

"The nation's top Marine issued a video statement Tuesday saying some Marines acted 'selfishly and unprofessionally' in the wake of allegations that explicit photos of female service members were posted on social media."

. . . .

"The statement followed reports over the weekend that nude photos of female Marines appeared on Marines United, a private Facebook page frequented by some active-duty servicemen and veterans. Some of the photos identified the women by name."

BOYS, THIS IS NOT MERELY BOYS BEING BOYS. PARTICIPANTS MIGHT GET A DISHONORABLE DISCHARGE WITH ALL THAT MEANS, ESPECIALLY FOR CAREER PERSONNEL THINK OF PENSION.

coolbert.

Facebook Marines.

This is coolbert:

Thanks to the tip from Freeper we have this interesting item. Image courtesy of Getty Images.

"Marines shared photos of naked female recruits on secret Facebook page"

"Hundreds of US Marines swapped naked pictures of female recruits and veterans — many of whom had no idea that they had been photographed — on a secret Facebook page, a report says. More than two dozen women — including active-duty and enlisted service members — were spotlighted on the social media site and identified by their full name, rank and military duty station"

My instantaneous and intuitive reaction on reading this was the recent hacking of smart phones as carried by Israeli military personnel

THOSE PICTURES OF NAKED FEMALE MARINES WHEN "SWAPPED" CONTAINED SOME SORT OF MALWARE? MALWARE WHEN USED BY AN INTELLIGENCE AGENCY OF A FOREIGN POWER FOR ILLICIT AND NEFARIOUS PURPOSES?

Mk 41.

This is coolbert:;

Finally one more item from Sharkhunters.

As dated 7 March 2017.

"NO TEETH?"

From WIZARD through Harry:

"the British Royal Navy [RN] might have done it again. Type 22 frigates equipped with new MK 41 missile launchers with no orders for missiles yet [Is there no money for them?]"

Mark 41 is the Vertical-Launch-System [VLS]. NOT the missiles themselves but the launch system.

Missiles pre-loaded into the VLS and ready for firing if and when needed and to include:

"The Mk 41 is capable of firing the following missiles: RIM-66 Standard [SAM], RIM-67 Standard [SAM], RIM-161 Standard Missile 3 [SAM, RIM-174 Standard ERAM [SAM and ASM], RGM-109 Tomahawk [ASM], RUM-139 VL-ASROC [Anti-Submarine-Rocket], RIM-7 Sea Sparrow [SAM], and RIM-162 ESSM [SAM]."

SAM = Surface to Air Missile, ASM = Anti-Ship-Missile, ASROC = Anti-Submarine-Rocket.

A warship without firepower is the same as tigers without teeth? Intuitively obvious to even the most casual of observers.

Thanks in all instances to MARCONI, WIZARD and Harry!

coolbert.

Draft Sweden.

This is coolbert:

Yet more from Sharkhunters.

"IS THE DRAFT NECESSARY?"

As dated 6 March 2017.

Concerning the recent announcement that the Swede again will begin conscription for military service:

will "Sweden is re-instating the draft and expects to bring in at least 4,000 men and women each year.Seventeen-year-old Sofie Hultgren said that many young Swedes viewed lengthy careers in the military as something odd and old-fashioned." She said:

"'I think many see it as something lame; something your father did. Why, when three are so many other fun things to do. I think this can give a feeling of comfort. Constrictions strengthens our defense when we see so much ugliness in this world.'"

"She thinks it would be interesting is she were drafted, but would not make in her career."

NO ONE IS EXPECTING SOFIE TO MAKE THE MILITARY HER CAREER. JUST ASKING HER TO DO HER BIT AS ENVISIONED!

coolbert.

Vietnam & India.

This is coolbert:

Continuing from Sharkhunters.

"IS THE DRAFT NECESSARY?"

As dated 6 March 2017.

 From WIZARD through Harry:

"Vietnam just commissioned the last two KILO Class submarines they ordered from Russia. Commissioning pennants were raised on DA NANG and BA RIA-VUNG aweek ago, on 28 February. These two boats bring the total to six KILO Class boats that Russia built for Vietnam."

More submarine stuff from WIZARD thanks again to Harry:

"INS KALVARI (India) carried out her first anti-ship missile firing in the Indian Ocean. The missile covered an unspecified distance and the test was considered a success. All six Indian submarines of the SCORPENE class will soon be outfitted with the Exocet SM39 missile . . . These missiles are fired as soon as they reach the surface to enhance their sea skimming traits and keep them out of enemy radar as long as possible. Keep in mind that we reported these submarines were so expensive and hit the Indian treasury so hard that they could not afford to buy torpedoes for these boats."

Warships without firepower are the same as tigers without teeth?

coolbert.

Russian WT.

This is coolbert:

A series of blog entries the heading in each case:

"IS THE DRAFT NECESSARY?"

As dated 6 March 2017.

From MARCONI through Harry at Sharkhunters.

"Today has seen an increase in the traffic sent by stations known to service Russian military and diplomatic units. Traffic consists of voice (5 figure cypher groups) data stream encryption, and 5 figure groups on encrypted Morse. USAF HF GCS (United States Air Force High Frequency (Short wave) Global Communications) channels have been active yesterday and today but not overly so"

Additionally thanks to MARCONI through Harry:

"our Webmaster based in Holland . . . tells me that, having checked the call signs monitored, it seems that the increase in military radio traffic is based in the north of Russia and is a seasonal increase that is normal for the time of year."

NOTHING to see here folks? Move along? The Russian bear active but not excessively so! Thank GOD for it too!

75th Ranger.

This is coolbert:

The game is afoot? President Trump has approved the plan? American special operations troops en masse are on the move and headed to Raqqa?

As seen at Freeper:

"75th Ranger Regiment hits the ground in Syria for Raqqa offensive"

"After months of planning and deliberations, the 75th Ranger Regiment has been deployed to Syria to participate in the war against ISIS as the coalition closes in on the so-called caliphate’s capital city of Raqqa. Yesterday, the first images emerged of Stryker armored vehicles on their way to Manbij. This comes weeks after Rangers deployed to theater with their Strykers and elements of the 75th Ranger Regiment had been passing through Kurdistan."

THE DAY OF RECKONING FOR THE CALIPH AND HIS MINIONS IS AT HAND? THIS IS NOT GOING TO BE EASY BUT MUST BE DONE!

From another war and another time:

"Almighty and most merciful Father, we humbly beseech Thee, of Thy great goodness, to restrain these immoderate rains with which we have had to contend. Grant us fair weather for Battle. Graciously hearken to us as soldiers who call upon Thee that, armed with Thy power, we may advance from victory to victory, and crush the oppression and wickedness of our enemies and establish Thy justice among men and nations."

coolbert.

RojPesh & YBŞ.

This is coolbert:

Coalition warfare rarely works well. How many times must I say it. The various partners in a military coalition often do not work together. Focused and concentrated energy is lacking. SOMETIMES EVEN ELEMENTS OF A COALITION IN COMBAT WITH ONE ANOTHER!!

Here with an event most troubling. Thanks to Robert for the report.

"Turkey defies US/UK coalition against the Islamic State, attacks the Yazidis instead"

"In a separate development, Yazidi Sinjar Resistance Units (YBŞ) in Iraq have reportedly been under sustained attack from Turkish-backed forces since the morning of 3 March."

Yazidi Sinjar Resistance Units (YBŞ) affiliated with YPG and the PKK (Kurdistan Workers Party) as is alleged!

An affiliation that has evidently raised the ire of the Turk. Proxies of the Turk doing the dirty work as part of a counter-productive grand strategy that does no one any good!!

"Today’s attack on the Yazidis is attributed to a 500-strong group calling itself 'RojPesh' (or ‘Rojava Peshmerga’). Despite this name, the RojPesh is closely allied to the Kurdistan Regional Government (KRG) of northern Iraq, and is suspected of being little more than a group of Turkish-backed mercenaries."

YBŞ and RojPesh. More actors on the stage, more players on the field, more cards in the deck. Fancy that until just a few years ago no one even KNEW who the Yazidi people were.

Dwight David Eisenhower we need you now!

coolbert.

Raqqa.

This is coolbert:

As originally seen at Freeper and thanks to KOMO reporting:

"Pentagon plan for Raqqa proposes increasing support for SDF, shuts door on Turkey"

"The US will provide arms supplies, artillery, attack helicopters and more US special operations forces for the assault on Islamic State (IS) stronghold Raqqa, to be led by the Syrian Democratic Forces (SDF) . . . The plan . . . would increase the level of US participation in the Raqqa operation"

SDF for the final push on Raqqa to be heavily supported by American military forces on the ground in Syria. That combined SDF contingent a composite of Arab and Kurdish fighters opposed to the Islamic State and also [?] Assad.

THE TRUMP PLAN AT WORK! THE FINAL APPROVAL WILL COME FROM DON!

AND NO COOPERATION OF THE TURK NEEDED OR WANTED??

Bridges Mosul.

This is coolbert:

From the Ron Unz Internet web site and the Patrick Cockburn archive that battle for Mosul now proceeding in a manner favorable to the combined forces of the Allied coalition. It is a done deal now?

"Iraq Army Makes Big Gains in Battle to Oust Isis from Mosul Stronghold" by Patrick Cockburn.

"Iraqi military forces are advancing towards the main complex of government buildings in the centre of west Mosul, indicating that Isis is losing control of its last big urban stronghold in Iraq."

Just a short while ago Patrick less than sanguine regarding the situation in Mosul and the offensive to oust the combatants of the Islamic state. That situation now has changed dramatically?

Continuing and concluding from Patrick:

"Isis is under pressure on all fronts, including Syria, where it has lost the town of al-Bab to Turkish forces and Arab auxiliaries under their control. Isis commanders must also prepare for an assault on its de facto Syrian capital of Raqqa by the Syrian Democratic Forces, whose main fighting force is drawn from the Syrian Kurds operating in cooperation with the US air force and US special forces on the ground. Isis is beset on every side but is likely to fight to the end, which may be a long time coming."

FIGHT UNTO THE END AND THEN EVEN BEYOND THAT AND USING STAY-BEHIND UNITS TO DO SO!

This is a "done deal". You the devoted reader to the blog decide for yourself.

coolbert.

Sverige.

This is coolbert:

Sverige för alltid!!

It is now a done deal. Sweden has re-introduced the military draft. Conscription! FOR MEN AND WOMEN BOTH!

1. "Sweden set to reintroduce conscription: broadcaster SR"

"Sweden set to reintroduce conscription: broadcaster SR Sweden's center-left government will decide on Thursday to reintroduce military conscription next year, amid lingering difficulties filling the ranks on a voluntary basis and a more uncertain security situation, public broadcaster SR reported. The Nordic country mothballed compulsory military service in 2010, but military activity in the Baltic region has increased since, in the wake of Russia's annexation of Crimea in 2014, prompting Sweden to step up military preparedness"

2. "Why Sweden is bringing back the draft"

A. "Not enough people are joining the military" [voluntary military not working]

B. "The situation in the Baltic region has changed"  [Russian resurgent]

C. "Public support is strong" [Swedish neutrality backed by a strong military]

D. "It hasn't even been away that long" [universal conscription]

3. "Sweden institutes military draft for both men and women"

"COPENHAGEN, Denmark (AP) — Sweden’s left-leaning government instituted a military draft for both men and women Thursday because of what its defense minister called a deteriorating security environment"

We are going to see mixed-genders of the type Caracal as found in the Israeli Army?
